Antonio Garrigues Walker, is a Spanish lawyer and honorary president of the Garrigues law firm. In 1954 he became part of the Garrigues firm. He held the position of president of the firm from 1961, when he was 27 years old, until 2014. He also chairs the Garrigues Foundation and the Garrigues Chair of Global Law at the University of Navarra. He is an internationally renowned jurist. His work as a legal expert on foreign investment in Spain is noteworthy. He has advised large multinationals, as well as the Spanish Government on economic legislation. He also provides legal advice and knowledge to governments, such as those of the United States and Japan, in their relations with Spain. In 1982, he created the Liberal Democratic Party (PDL), of which he was elected president, and has received various decorations and distinctions, such as the recent Antonio Fontán prize for one of his articles. He was the special advisor to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and is also the founder of the Spanish Chapter of Transparency International (TI), an organization for the fight against corruption. Antonio Garrigues is president and board member of different companies and has been awarded honorary doctorates by universities at national and international level. He is a regular speaker at seminars and conferences of the firm and of various specialised centres and associations both in Spain and abroad.
